Garden Song® 104-3 Food Court Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I just started using this last week. It took a day or two for the birds to adapt to the design, but since they have, they seem to love it. My primary reason for purchasing it was to ease house finch-swarming, which is inevitable if they are plentiful in your area. With 10 ports to use, both inside and out, and along all lengths of the tubes, I thought this might be a good solution. And it is.
Pros:
*There is definitely less fighting among the birds with this feeder. While pecking order still exists, and while the finches will always be possessive of feeders, there are enough ports to
feed them, the cardinals, sparrows, chickadees and titmice.
*10 ports....feeds a lot of birds at once.
*Select A Seed allows you to flip the ladder perches up or down for nijer feeding.
*Offer two types of seed at once. The cardinals, chickadees and titmice love safflower, and I fill the other side with sunflower hearts, which everyone loves.
*Each fill lasts 2+ days. Easy to fill.
*Almost rain-resistant. Other vertical tube feeders allow rain in though ports, thus spoling seed and creating much waste.
*Great design. I placed mine on a swivel hook and it's fun to see it spin. The birds don't seem to mind the ride.
Cons:
*Juvenile birds have a hard time figuring out that there are ports inside and out. Also, they seem fearful of flying right onto it, and they have become dependent upon the air conditioner in the next window as a jump-from point. They sit on the ac and then jump onto the ladder perch on the unit.
*Doesn't seem to attract the jays too much. Design may be too difficult for them to manage. It is definitely a feeder which prefers smaller birds. I have seen the larger birds try to use it with some difficulty.
*The base of the unit provides small indentations where birds can sit and eat, rather than sit on a perch. But I don't see them using it, and I think it is because the plastic is too smooth and there is nothing for them to grab onto. So there is still plenty of seed in the bottom but it's difficult for them to get to it.

It does not drip like many of the tube type so it does not attract as many unwanted ants and stinging winged things. Aspects Hummingbird Hummzinger Feeder Review

-PROPER CLEANING IS A MUST-
The Hummzinger Excel by Aspects Inc. is the easiest to clean feeder that I have ever owned. Unlike the inverted bottle style feeders this feeder has no recessed or unreachable places that will harbor mold and bacteria. This feeder is simply three parts, the red top that is basically flat on the underside, the bowl like basin and a metal hangar. Cleaning is simple and requires only removing the top and flushing the top and basin out with hot water. DO NOT use soap, as hummers can taste the residue! This cleaning should be done every three or four days (more often if in a warmer climate or if mixture becomes cloudy or has black specks). Once a month soak the feeder top and basin in a mixture of 1/4-cup bleach to one gallon of water. Soak for one hour then rinse thoroughly with hot water. Dry and refill.
-What to feed? -
DO NOT BUY COMMERCIALLY AVAIALBLE NECTAR. It's a complete waste of money and they are NOT PROVEN SAFE for hummingbirds. Hummingbirds only need (from us) the sugar/water mixture that is one part CANE sugar (sucrose) to four parts water. This is a very close reproduction of natural flower nectar. Natural flower nectar is mainly water and natural sugars like sucrose and/or glucose, among some other trace sugars and elements. The other nutrients hummingbirds' need they get from catching small bugs like gnats and spiders. The sugar/water syrup recipe is stamped on the underside of the Hummzinger's lid for reference. Mix well until all the sugar is dissolved then fill your feeder. Commercial mixes contain many unneeded chemicals and red dye that has not been tested for safety in regard to hummingbirds. Don't risk them and save your money!
-Is the Hummzinger durable? -
Yes, constructed of UV stable polycarbonate and backed with a LIFETIME GAURANTEE the Hummzinger will last a lifetime. The thick plastic components of the Hummzinger are unbreakable and there is NO plastic snap on flowers to worry about. The metal hangar screws into the basin in the middle and is quite strong. No more hanging by wires that can become brittle and break.
-What other features does this feeder have? -
1) Durable construction of unbreakable UV stable polycarbonate plastics that will not fade in the sun. However to avoid syrup spoilage hang the feeder in the shade.
2) Comes with a metal hangar or is post mountable.
3) Built in ant moat with overflow drain channels, just fill with some water and hang. TIP: Only fill about half way if hanging the feeder. This will keep the water from dripping out the drain ports if you bump the feeder hanging it, like I do!
4) Solid one-piece top with raised flowers (no snap on flowers) that divert rainwater away from the six feeding ports so the syrup will not dilute.
5) 16-ounce capacity with syrup level scale on the side of the basin (4, 8, 12 and 16 ounce marks). Do not overfill!
6) All around perch that my hummers love to use. I have attracted five to feed all at once!
7) Saucer like shape makes this feeder very stable when hanging in high wind. Mine hangs about four feet and even during strong storm winds the Hummzinger barely moves. My old inverted bottle feeder would swing madly and even broke free one day!
8) Bee/Wasp proof by design! The Hummzinger is bee/wasp proof because the feeding ports sit up above the top surface of the sugar water solution. Hummers have no problem reaching the food but the shorter insect tongues cannot reach the goodies!
9) Lifetime guarantee.
10) Made by a company that does not make commercial nectar. This is also why I support Aspects Inc. not only because of the exceptional design and construction of the Hummzinger line, but also their dedication to the health of Hummingbirds by NOT offering products such as nectar, which are NOT proven SAFE for hummingbirds. They are concerned with the birds, not their profits and it shows because they do NOT make nectar and produce the best feeders available!
This truly is the BEST feeder for ALL the reasons!

Droll Yankees SEP 68-Inch Shepherds Envy Pole with Hanging Arm Review

(More customer reviews)Although my backyard is mostly woods, believe it or not I did not have any suitable branches to hand my bird feeders! I was debating on a yard pole versus a deck system. My husband reminded me that birds can be quite messy and we should perhaps place a yard pole near the woods, where we can easily see it from our window and patio door. Good idea - as much as I like the birds, the mess belongs in the yard (droppings, shells, feathers, etc). I went to literally 5 garden stores and 3 hardware stores and couldn't find anything suitable. Most were too flimsy, too short, did not anchor well into the ground, etc. I researched this pole and it looked like a good one, although no reviews were available. I took a chance.
This pole is pefect! THick, well made. I have a Droll Yankees Flipper Droll Yankees YF Flipper Bird Feeder and Whipper Droll Yankees YCPW180 Whipper Bird Feeder, Dark Blue. Both are very large, heavy feeders that hold 5 pounds of seed apiece. They are 21 inches long and 4 1/2 inches in diameter, so no flimsy pole was going to do the job! This pole has a corkscrew spike that anchors it into the ground. There are four tripod-like legs that lie flat on the ground for further stability. I purchased an add on double arm mount Droll Yankees, Inc Double Arm Mount and Hanger - Adds 16 Inch Arm to DCH, so I could put two large feeders on the pole. The locking mechanism on the arm really keeps the bird feeder well secured hanging on the pole. The arm is angles outward, giving the larger feeders distance from the pole while hanging. I also ordered a Droll Yankees squirrel dome which works well with this pole Droll Yankees SQPM Pole Mount Squirrel Guard. That is also very thick and well made. Secures well on the pole. No squirrels have yet to get passed it. I also ordered a triple arm hanger Droll Yankees, Inc Triple Hook Assembly, which allows me to hang three other smaller items onto the pole. I have a small peanut feeder, a hummingbird feeder and a suit holder. All is well made and encompases a complete bird feeding station! I liked this pole so much I ordered another one. If you are looking for a pole for your bird feeders, look no further - just order it!

Best 1 8 oz. Hummingbird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)This is a small hummingbird feeder that would be great for those just trying their hand at attracting hummingbirds. It's inexpensive and easy to maintain, but most of all, the hummers love it! My wife and I have three hummingbird feeders: this one, a Schrodt - Crystal Single Etched Hummingbird Lantern, and another model with 6 tulip-shaped feeder holes. Though it's not one of the prettier feeders, the Best-1 is the one we paid the least for and it's the feeder they seem to prefer. There are no yellow flowers to attract yellow jackets, and they really seem to like to perch more on this one. Since it's a glass bottle design, you'll need a bottle brush to clean it well inside, but the lid pops off of the red base to make that part very easy to clean.
Older models of this feeder did not have the built-in ant moat (depressed ring around lid of base), so if you buy one locally, make sure it has that feature. With a small feeder like this one, you'll be filling it often enough anyway, so pouring a little water in that ring every few days is all it takes to keep the ants away.

It immediately attracted all the birds in the area, including chickadees, pine siskins, house finches, black-headed grosbeaks, flickers, jays, and even magpies. Both large and small birds feed without wasting any seeds. The feeder has held up beautifully through heavy snows and hot dry summers with weeks of 100 degree weather. It has not been damaged by high winds. The feeder is very light, so that most of the weight is the seed. It's extremely easy to fill, too. We've just replaced one of our old wooden feeders with a brand new Magnum, and the first bird landed on it in under thirty minutes. We have had all kinds of bird feeders, and have fed birds here in Utah and back east in Pennsylvania over the years. This is the very best feeder we've ever used!
