(More customer reviews)I bought the standard "high energy suet" from my grocery store and it was pretty much ignored by the birds except for occassional starlings, which I wasn't looking to attract. I replaced it with this "woodpecker treat" and now we have several woodpeckers who feed from it daily. Although woodpeckers are common where I live, we never saw them hanging out in our yard before. However, it is also attracting grey squirrels, which the plain blend didn't, and I think they're eating a lot more of it than the birds. Even so, a cake lasts more than a week, so I planning to stick with this variety for a while.

(More customer reviews)This bird feeder chain was exactly what I was looking for. It wraps around any size limb and twirls easily to minimize bird seed spilling from the feeder. Some seed always falls out, but the fact that it rotates with the wind, or a push from an animal definately helps to minimize the situation. I would recomend buying this chain and hanging your bird feeder properly. Fully adjustable too!

Coveside Woodpecker Suet Feeder Review

The best part is that my relentless squirrells cannot get to it because the openings are smaller than regular suet feeders. The woodpeckers rest their tails on the wooden tail rest so it works exactly as described.

Any defects show up quickly, and we've gone through a bunch of bird feeders over the years. We love the 30" Droll Yankee feeder. It's very well made, holds 4 pounds of feed, and the birds took to it (all 12 perches) almost instantly.
We're also very pleased with the smaller 1# version we have owned for years, but it's usually empty by noon. This one will last all day and then some, even in the busy spring feeding season. Highly recommended.

Birdscapes® 384 Festival Feeder, 1.8 capacity Review

(More customer reviews)I've had two of these feeders in copper, and neither of them lasted for more than a year! The fault is in the construction of the metal feeding/perching plate. It is simply bolted into the plastic tube, which is too weak to withstand the weight of the plate. So after being knocked down a time or two, whether by wind or the occasional squirrel, the plastic cracks under pressure and the entire bottom of the feeder breaks off with no way to be repaired.

Birds Choice Bluejay Feeder w/ Hanging Cable in Natural or Green Roof Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this feeder to keep the Bluejays from robbing the squirrel feeder. The Jays love it because they can simply pull peanuts quickly out, however it is very difficult to fill. It takes too much time to fill and the peanuts will fall out on the ground at first, more than they go into the feeder. I only take time to fill it once a day, otherwise the Jays are still robbing the squirrel feeder. I believe if it had a larger area at the top for filling, it would be a much better feeder. Also it needs to have a flat bottom instead of the raised one, because it rolls the peanuts out when filling. If only BlueJays are being fed (and good luck with that), then it would be a good choice. I would not purchase another one and probably would not recommend it.

(More customer reviews)This morning I saw a red-tailed hawk swoop up and grab one of the little pine siskins in this cage feeder, right through the bars. I had thought the birds were safe in this feeder, but it turned out to be not quite true. The hawk had trouble pulling his foot back out of the cage with the pine siskin trapped in his claws, but he finally managed it.
Even though Duncraft makes some great bird feeders, there are three reasons why I would not buy this model again:
--red squirrels can squeeze through the bars and get at the seed
--the cage bottom is very difficult to clean. The discarded husks, seeds, and bird droppings create a formidable cement, even after just one day (as I said, the small birds really like this feeder)
--hawks can reach through the bars and extract the smaller birds

(More customer reviews)Set this up and the woodpeckers and other birds couldn't reach the suet. Kept squirels away and everything else. Much too wide and high. HUGH! Brought it in and used wire cutters to take a full row off the circle and the top and bottom. Put it out and birds started coming. Squirrels still can't get at it so it now does what it should. Feeds the birds and stop the squirrels. I would avoid this one and get a smaller one like the Nuttery Squirrel Proof Suet Feeder (NT95)

Fly Thru Gazebo Bird Feeder, Green Review

(More customer reviews)THIS FEEDER HAS A MAJOR & DANGEROUS FLAW. I recently purchased the Fly Thru Metal Gazebo Feeder (3400)and there is a dangerous flaw for small birds! Yesterday an Oregon Junco was behaving oddly at that particular feeder and after a few moments I realized his foot was TRAPPED in the feeder. It was trapped where the metal floor of the platform is folded up in order to hold the seeds. The bird struggled and struggled to get free. When it finally did I went out and took the platform down and saw that there was blood, a lot of blood for such a small bird. I have to wonder if the poor thing even lived through the night.
After I took the feeder down I used aquarium sealant to fill all the gaps. And I have also contacted various suppliers of this feeder to let them know that the manufacturer needs to CLOSELY crimp the 6 floor folds.
Duncraft, who also sells this feeder, was very supportive and the president of their company wrote to the manufacturer!

Just those pesky rats with bushy tails. Another future garage sale item. I think I'll ask five bucks for this one because it cost so much. It does look nice hanging on the pergola, when there isn't a squirrel hanging on it stuffing his or her big belly with my expensive seeds.

(More customer reviews)I have 2 of these model #7527 for over 6 years. They are sturdy and well made. The design of the roof, balance beam, shutter and roof locking system are simple and well made. I can set the "balance beam" to whatever size birds(s)I want to feed. I have eliminated starlings and other unwanted birds at these feeders by adjusting the weight on the balance beam. Squirrels have never been able to access the seed and each spring a new crop of squirrels go through every possible method to get at the seed, and fail. The "trick" to limiting access is to resist the temptation to set the weight on the beam too heavy so that squirrels can hold the shutter open and clean out the seed. I have had to replace the rod on which the birds sit one time when a squirrel figured out that it could chew through the rod and then do some entertaining acrobatics to cling to the feeder and scoop out seed.
