(More customer reviews)We recently found about the hot pepper suet so we bought some. The squirrels were devouring our regular suet so we didn't buy any suet for years.
With this suet, the squirrels avoid the suet like the plague but the birds (most any bird with a long thin beak) love it. We now see new birds. I've added a few pictures of the birds on the feeder.
We found this exact product for about a dollar fifty in our local Home Depot and bought up several dozen. They sell like hot cakes so I wanted to get a few months supply while I could.

(More customer reviews)I bought the standard "high energy suet" from my grocery store and it was pretty much ignored by the birds except for occassional starlings, which I wasn't looking to attract. I replaced it with this "woodpecker treat" and now we have several woodpeckers who feed from it daily. Although woodpeckers are common where I live, we never saw them hanging out in our yard before. However, it is also attracting grey squirrels, which the plain blend didn't, and I think they're eating a lot more of it than the birds. Even so, a cake lasts more than a week, so I planning to stick with this variety for a while.

The copper top suet feeder is a flimsily made piece of junk. The copper top is no more than a piece of copper flashing. Add the cost of the product to shipping and handling charges and discover how outrageously over priced this item is. I could have done much better at a brick and mortar store and wish I had. I would have returned it but didn't want to hassle the additional costs, so I cut my losses and stuck it up on my porch. The product did not even include a hanger, if you can imagine. The birds are totally embarassed to be seen hanging out at it.

Bird's Choice Recycled Single Cake Tail Prop Suet Feeder w/ Hanging Cable Review

(More customer reviews)2 days after hanging the feeder outside I noticed something wrong. A squirrel chewed through the feeder so one of the grids holding the suet in fell out. I know they have sharp teeth, but they cut through the feeder like it was butter. I took pictures but unfortunately can't upload them here.

Bird's Choice Single Cake Upside Down Suet Feeder w/ Hanging Cable Review

I've had one of these for six months now, and have done everything under the sun to get birds to come to it. I've pushed suet out the bottom to make it more visible. I've hung a regular suet cage under it. I've got lots of woodpeckers here and other small birds using the suet cage (I go through a suet cake every 4 or 5 days in the summer, about every other day now that it's colder) but the birds just haven't found the suet in the upside-down feeder. Well, one or two have pecked a little at it, but they don't come back, and others don't follow them. When I put those very same suet cakes in the other feeder, there are plenty of birds.
I thought this was a great way to keep the grackles out of the suet (they were eating 2 cakes a day), but it sure didn't get suet to the birds I wanted to give it to. My solution was to use Thistle and Safflower seed in the regular feeders -- grackles don't like either. Then I got a weight-sensitive feeder for the sunflower seed and it closes up when a grackle tries to feed. Since they've stopped coming for the seed, they don't bother the suet either.

I had bought a large peanut bird feeder from Wildbirds Unlimited (which I love), and I wanted a smaller one for my other birdfeeder pole for the smaller birds. This item is basically made out of screen, including the bottom. The holes are too small for peanuts, unless you chop them up. Save your money and wait until you can afford a better quality peanut bird feeder.

Stokes Select 38069 Squirrel Proof Double Suet Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I had a problem with squirrels eating my suet cakes. This contraption kept out the squirrels but still allowed the woodpeckers to feed. In fact it kept the woodpeckers around a little longer to view as some would climb inside the cage and others would peck at it from the bottom or side. Even the big Pileated woodpeckers could reach the food. I would leave this out at night and one night a big racoon took it down, but couldn't get at the suet. The next night, it was gone. I guess he took it to his den to use his power tools on it. Anyway, here I am to buy another. I'll bring it in each night from now on.
