Twirl-a-Squirrel Baffle, Green Review

(More customer reviews)I picked up one of these to try to keep my bird seed being eaten by the birds in my backyard instead of the greedy squirrels. (There is a squirrel feeder in the yard as well, but the squirrels still climb up and go for the more expensive bird seed.)
I give it 3 stars because it is a bit more finicky than I would have hoped for. According to the instructions that come with it:
1) Works on feeders up to 8 pounds - not 10 as described above in the description. My feeder is on the edge.
2) You can't hang it from a rope of anything else not rigid. My feeder hangs from a long chain and already has a rain guard over it. Due to weight if I put the Twirl-a-Squirrel above that chain and guard then I exceed the weight limit and the instructions say I can't hang it off the end of the chain so it is kind of limiting.
3) It triggers when it detects 1 pound of weight. Unfortunately this is sensistive enough to go off just from birds using the feeder. It is not uncommon for there to be 10+ birds on the feeder and sometimes another will land "hard" on the bottom of the feeder and start the twirling.
4) Instructions say to take it down when windy. I haven't had it long enough to know how sensitive it is going to be to wind yet but this does concern me as it is often windy in my backyard.
5) If your feeder has a screwed in hook on top of it then the twirl-a-squirrel can unscrew it from the feeder when it rotates. Not a problem for me but could be for others.
On the plus side it does a great job of chasing away the squirrels so far and the birds have been persistent with dealing with the false alarms that send them flying away.
I hope this has been helpful to others who are considering giving this a try. I give it a thumbs up overall and recommend it.

20 inch Hanging Squirrel Baffle Review

However, I then hung another baffle between this one and the feeder, so they have 2 obstacles to cross, and that helped a bit more. This definitely would work better with a short feeder (4-5 inches). The longer feeders give the critters more options when coming down off of the baffle(s).

(More customer reviews)The item arrived without any written instructions.When I figured out how the (included) clamp would attach to the pole I realized that, after installation, the baffle would slide down a few inches- maybe enough for a squirrel to bypass. I decided to use a hard rubber gasket instead. This "retainer" can be pushed all the way up the neck of the baffle- with NO slippage and no sqirrels. Works fine!

Create A Haven Cage Tube Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)The narrow diameter (8") allows the squirrels and large birds (such as grackles) to hang on one side and tip the birdfeeder inside the cage so that they can still reach the seed. It needs to be much wider in diameter. The 15" cage around the Droll Yankee feeder is the perfect size--I can tell you from experience that that feeder indeed foils large birds AND squirrels, but is retailing at $85. It would be the ticket to all our birdfeeding woes if it were 15" diameter. Unfortunately, no one--even Droll Yankee--offers that size in a retrofit cage. Ticks me off, as they obviously know that is the magic dimension, and us poor suckers that already invested $35 in a tube feeder think we might save money by buying a retrofit cage for $35 vs. a whole new system for $85. They also need to make the feeder stationery in the retrofit cage so that larger animals cannot use the tipping method to get their pie holes closer to the feed.
I have spent ridiculous amounts of money and time on these contraptions. No more money out of my pocket until someone comes up with a 15" diameter retrofit cage. The prices for these are crazy. The poly-coated wire mesh can be bought for pennies a foot. I hope this deters someone from buying more of this cr*p that the manufacturers seem purposefully designing not to work right.

Stokes Select 38023 18-Inch Wrap-Around Squirrel Baffle Review

(More customer reviews)I had no problems at all with the company and the baffle works great with keeping the squirrels away, but getting that huge sticker off made me wish I had bought another one. I spent about an hour and a half stripping it off and using Goo Gone. I would not buy that baffle again. Why in the world would they put that huge sticker (just look at the picture) on there and glue it on there like that? There is no way I was going to put that baffle out in my yard with a big label on it, so I had to get it off. I have removed many stickers in my life, but that was bad!

This works very well with the Droll Yankees Pole systems. It attaches securly and easily. This is well made of very thick, sturdy plastic. SO far I have had mine for 2 months and although I have many squirrels, none have been able to make it past this squirrel guard. I highly recommend this with the Droll Ynakee pole system! I bought a second one to go on my other pole.

35001 Cling - A - Wing - Part #: 35001 Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third cling-a-wing bird feeder I've purchased over the years. I don't recall having difficulty assembling the others. The swivel cover for the seed receptacle is hard to move the first time. You need to FORCE it, which doesn't seem logical. And the metal bolt that holds the whole feeder together doesn't protrude from the bottom for the connecting nut to have a good "grab" on it. I ended up filing off some of the plastic around the bottom hole so that the bolt could stick out farther. Then I could get 4-5 good turns on the nut! Now it's fine.

Seattle Rain Guard, 10" Clear Review

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful product. If you have a yankee feeder and you want to protect your bird seed from the rain this is the product to get. The birds like it, it keeps the seeds fairly protected (not counting rain conditions like rain coming from the side and not straight down) and it fits snugly on the feeder. It's very easy to move up and down to where you need it. Only designed for Yankee feeders.
Also tip: It's easier to put on when your feeder is empty. The design of my feeder you have to put it on from the bottom, not the top. All yankee feeders may be designed like that or it could just be mine but check which way is easiest to put on before filling up.
Also I brought the Droll Omni Seed tray that is meant for yankee feeders and it's great to. I have both the Omni Tray and the rain guard on my feeder and the birds love both and it saves seeds and I'm all about saving money! Less seeds wasted...less money spent.

Weather Shield Copper Leaf Baffle, 18" Brown Review

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these from a local birding store to hang over seed feeders. We wanted something decorative that would also keep the birds dry as they fed during rain events. Any squirrel deterrent properties of this shield was secondary.
The shields have been hanging in our backyard for almost a year now, and we are very pleased with them. The shield does a good job protecting feeding birds from rain or snow. Wind will move the shield/baffle to some extent, but not excessively.
My only complaint is that the shield would be even better with a couple additional inches.
Birds occasionally perch on the shield and sometimes even a squirrel. If you buy this shield solely as a potential squirrel baffle, you may be disappointed.
The weather shield copper baffle is ornate, attractive, and protective.

Some seed always falls out, but the fact that it rotates with the wind, or a push from an animal definately helps to minimize the situation. I would recomend buying this chain and hanging your bird feeder properly. Fully adjustable too!

Large Hopper Feeder Hgrn Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great bird feeder. It is fast and simple to fill. After about 5 years of use the cable that it hangs from broke. I replaced it with a much thicker cable and have had no further issues. I also made my cable a bit longer this gets the roof farther out of the way when filling making it easier to fill. I wish I would have gotten the larger size though as I've got enough birds to clean this thing out in a day now.

It tightens up by turning the eyescrew to the left, not to the right as you would think. It's out year round in NY, holding a pole, extra wide tray and cover.
