20 inch Hanging Squirrel Baffle Review

However, I then hung another baffle between this one and the feeder, so they have 2 obstacles to cross, and that helped a bit more. This definitely would work better with a short feeder (4-5 inches). The longer feeders give the critters more options when coming down off of the baffle(s).

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item to go with my Droll Yankees Shepahards pole Droll Yankees SEP 68-Inch Shepherds Envy Pole with Hanging Arm (see my product review there on the link). This works very well with the Droll Yankees Pole systems. It attaches securly and easily. This is well made of very thick, sturdy plastic. SO far I have had mine for 2 months and although I have many squirrels, none have been able to make it past this squirrel guard. I highly recommend this with the Droll Ynakee pole system! I bought a second one to go on my other pole.

(More customer reviews)I had a feeder with four socks that attracted vast flocks of finches, right outside my window, and I loved it. What I didn't love was the huge piles of seed that spilled out every day. Far more seed was wasted than eaten.
This feeder can't hold as many finches as four long socks, obviously, but I've counted 8 or 9 at a time clustered around it. And spillage can't be more than about one twentieth of the old feeder. This thing is sturdy, and the lid comes off easily for refilling.
Highly recommended.

Morning Song Goldfinch Thistle Sock Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the 13 oz. Morning Song Goldfinch Thistle Sock at a local store for a little less than $5. The sock feeder comes with a cord for hanging and is refillable. It should be hung approx. 5' above the ground to feed the birds.
In the past, I've used 2 different styles of hanging tube thistle feeders that have perches. The goldfinches used those feeders too, but the seed always got wet & wouldn't dry out. I hung this sock feeder alongside the tube feeders & was surprised to see that the finches preferred this sock feeder. It's been unseasonably cool in our area this year so I don't know if we'll get more birds when the weather warms up or not. Right now, I usually see 2 goldfinches at a time on the sock feeder. I rarely see any on the tube feeders. We finally found a spot to hang our thistle feeders that will somewhat protect them from the nasty weather. I'm curious to find out how quickly the seed will dry in the sock feeder as compared to the plastic tube feeders. Right now, I'm pleased with my purchase.
Update: I've refilled the sock feeder twice now. The first time I went to way more trouble than necessary to refill the sock. The next time, I used this Heath Outdoor Products FS-1 Feed Scoop-Funnel. I put the sock in a tall, plastic cylinder; pulled the edges of the sock over the top of the cylinder (to hold the sock open) and filled the sock quickly, with no mess. The cylinder helps hold the sock while I'm filling it & also catches the seeds that fall out of the mesh. The seed hasn't gotten moldy in the sock yet like it did in the tube feeders. I read a comment that the sock should be cleaned once in a while, be sure to rinse it well.

Droll Yankees SQG 15-Inch Green Dome Squirrel Guard Review

Gadjit Soda Bottle Hummingbird Recycler Feeder Review

Hummer Helper Cage and Nesting Material Review

(More customer reviews)I hate to give a product less than 4 or 5 stars but I never had a single taker with this product. I left it out for more than 3/4 of the summer and the birds wouldn't go near it. The previous summer I put clean pet hair in a wire ball that was designed for feeding lettuce snacks to pet bunny rabbits (check the image gallery for this product). I hung that out and had all kinds of goldfinches and titmouses going after it. It really was a sight to see. Then, as I said, I hung this product up last summer right next to the wire ball of pet hair and the birds were so frightened of the Hummer Helper Cage that they wouldn't even take the pet hair because it was too close to this big scary thing. At first I just figured they were uninterested this year for some silly reason. Until I took down the hummer helper cage. Before the summer was even over I had a female ruby-throated hummingbird showing INTENSE curiosity about my pet hair ball and the goldfinches eventually took it all. It wasn't even the time of year for nesting but they clearly liked it (I have a photo of that, too, in the image gallery). That's when I realized all along that the only problem had been the hummer cage. Next year, I'll only be putting out the ball of clean pet hair. I gave this product 3 stars instead of a lower rating because it's a good concept and seemed well-made, and because birds in other areas may not be frightened of it (after all, they each have their own personality). But for me, I'm probably going to give it to another friend who's a bird lover. She lives a half hour away and the birds near her seem a little less fickle.

So far, we haven't had any problems with either since the installation. The only difficulty we had was that one of the attachment straps broke before even being affixed to the post. My husband improvised, and so far, it has held. The welding on the straps leaves something to be desired, or I'd rate this product higher.
