After getting it all set up and in the feeder the hummers shunned it in favor of another feeder with only clear necter. Save your money and make your own necter with sugar, its easier!

(More customer reviews)The one I bought didn't include the little flower so I can't say how it does for hummingbirds and it didn't include the suction cup either. I can suggest an alternative use for it though - a rooting vase.
The ring holding it to the butterfly portion can be opened and the glass can be replaced upside down. It can then be hung with string and a hook, it's very cute that way and I have some herb cuttings in it. The glass portion is also sturdy enough to be just set in the window sill like you would a bud vase.

(More customer reviews)We have two of the Droll Yankees window feeders and another of their hanging feeders. I was just about to order several more of the window feeders as gifts when I noticed the negative review and felt compelled to respond.
With our previous, gravity-style feeders, the nectar would drip attracting a continuous stream of bees which would drive off the hummingbirds. The design of both Droll Yankee feeders is bee-proof. On occasion, a bee will explore the feeder only to give up in frustration.
It took the birds about two weeks to figure out the window feeder, but now (end of summer) it seems to be their favorite. Because it mounts on the window, I can watch the birds from only a couple of feet away. It's neat to be able to identify individual birds from their unique markings.
Use a 1-to-4 sugar-to-water mix (no coloring necessary). Wash the feeder at least weekly with regular dish detergent/water and rinse scrupulously with hot water. Don't wait until the feeder is empty for washing or refilling. Yes, you will have to disassemble the feeder for washing; it's neither difficult nor inconvenient. Relax and enjoy the weekly ritual, then enjoy the birds.

We plan to put it up in the spring, the only thing I am worried about is the directions say to mount the house way up close to the eaves; and the black-out piece (so the birds can't see you) also means you can't see the birds, unless you move the blackout plastic aside. I had imagined that it would just be like a tinted window. So those two factors may make it hard for my grandmother to enjoy, but I figure if it doesn't work for her, my two year old daughter will enjoy it.

(More customer reviews)I was excited to receive and hang this feeder and even more so when a hummingbird found it within 24 hrs. Unfortunately, a finch also thought it made a nice perch and immediately broke the plastic 'hooks' that hold it in place. I would imagine this would not be an isolated experience and wish the feeder had been better manufactured, especially for the price. I will buy a different type of feeder in the future.

The thing that is not clear on the advertising - there is no 2 way mirror even though the picture shows it and it is made from cedar. Good quality product at a good price, easy to assemble and refill on a double hung window without a screen.

The suction cups keep it securely on the window even with multiple birds waiting in line on the roof while the seed trays are occupied. It gives a wonderful window view to an observer and I have even noticed the birds observe us while they are eating their seed. I wish they made a larger "buffet" feeder and even a suction bird bath about the same size. This makes a wonderful gift for someone in a nursing facility if you can access their window or for a classroom situation in a nursery or school. (More customer reviews)We loved this product. No luck the first year because we had the house in the wrong location (sunny and too much people traffic). Finally we found a spot on the north side of the house on a second floor bedroom window that worked the second year. The bird family set up home, preparing the house with sticks. Soon we had 5-6 eggs. We were able to watch the baby birds get feed, etc. We needed to stand very still to watch. Sometimes as we approached the window the parent bird would fly off but would soon come back if we stood like statues and didn't move. Amazing experience! We just purchased our second house and it seems a bit better quality than our last. To clean, simply unscrew back panel, empty and re-screw on panel. The birds all leave the house by middle summer. Highly recommend!

(More customer reviews)I didn't purchase this through amazon, but from a local garden store. This is a good, solid window feeder for being under 30 dollars. I've had it for about a month and there's been lots of birds, mainly Finches and Cardinals, coming to the feeder all day. They found it very quickly. It is a good size, several birds can come to it at once, and holds quite a bit of seed. The amount of seed it holds tends to keep it filled quite awhile, around five days, and since it sits on the tray, it cannot be kicked out or wasted. Other feeders i've tried the seed is gone in about one day.
The only drawbacks are that the feeder is large enough to hold nuisance birds such as Doves, Pigeons, etc, and the plastic on the back of the feeder can intrude the view of the birds sometimes, compared to other feeders...
BUT, I would definitly recommened this item.

(More customer reviews)This is one of my favorite feeders, because it's right there in front of your nose! Hummingbirds are very fast. I've gone entire years only seeing one sighting that year because I wasn't sitting by the feeder when they happened to come by. By sticking the feeder where it is always visible, that little movement will catch your eye, and you'll probably see them daily! I know I do!
Because it's made of glass, and not plastic like the normal seed-feeders, it is on the heavy side and needs to be attached securely. I read some reviews where people had trouble connecting it. I found it quite easy, just clean the glass, oil the cups a bit and press. It's stayed up for years without any problem.
I also read some reviews where people said they had trouble filling it. Just about EVERY hummingbird feeder I have has a small exit area - otherwise the nectar wouldn't come out slowly! A funnel is 39 cents and makes filling *very* easy.
I have 10+ hummingbird feeders and this is by far the best for consistant hummingbird viewing.

(More customer reviews)I ordered two of these for myself and then two for my mother because they are just too much fun to have and to watch the hummingbirds come and feed from. I especially like the fact that the hummingbirds like to check you out as you are checking them out. I was pleasantly surprised that it took only 2-3 days for them to find it, although I have a large group of birds already in my yard. I was slightly worried that they would be reluctant to feed at the sliding glass window of my house with my movements going on, as well as my English Mastiff and my 2 cats, but they seem not to mind the noise or the movement beyond the window at all. It's as if they understand they are safe from the cats on the other side of the glass Ha Ha Ha. The feeders open up easily which means easy cleanings and easy refillings, and it's nice to be able to see clearly when the food level is getting low. The only main drawback that I've found so far is that it has been a breeding site for a bug (which I haven't quite decided that it's a mosquito for sure). I guess this could also be a plus though because hummingbirds eat bugs just as often and possibly more so than they do nectar, so this may be good for them to find both foodstuffs in the same spot. I'm also not sure about bees in the summertime, but we'll have to wait until then to find out about whether that's a problem or not.
