(More customer reviews)It is a great idea, and I like the swivel feature, but the length of the arm means that the clamp pulls up on the wooden deck rail it is attached to. I can only fill the feeder with a small amount of seed, and I have to keep the swivel set so that the feeder is in line with the deck rail, defeating the purpose of being able to swing it out away from the deck floor. It might work better on a flat metal rail.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice quality product for a great price. The great benefit of this is that you can position the branches however you want - so you can hang them over your deck railing if you don't want bird seed mess on your deck. That was the selling point for me.
The only thing I'm not totally fond of is the green color. I sure wish it was black. But since this is the only adjustable deck hook with double handles I could find, I'll learn to be happy with the green!

Garden Song 102-4 Select-A-Bird Tube Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I have nothing bad to say about this product. I have been using it for several weeks now and it is definitely my favorite. The birds love it, too! ;)
The perches are adjustable from underneath the base. Supposedly this allows you to choose which size birds you would like to accomodate. I open it all the way, and the regulars (finches, sparrows, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, woodpeckers) have no problem using it. Larger birds may be able to use it, with some difficulty. I have seen the blue jay use it, and it was quite comical. He perched, squatted and maneuvered his body sideways to get the seed. The mechanism underneath sometimes gets stuck, but it always responds with some tooling around.
-NO WASTE!!! The lowest perches are on the very bottom of the feeder, which means the birds themselves are cleaning it out. There is none of that moldy old seed left in the bottom. You could easily get away with cleaning this once every few weeks.
-Extremely reasonable price.
-Pleasant green color, sturdy plastic, easy to clean.
-Select A Seed feature allows for nijer.
Filling it is easy but I "close" the ports first (move to nijer, with the tiny opening), fill it with hulled sunflower and safflower, then "open" the ports once again. There is some spillage, of maybe 15 seeds, which I save for the next filling. If you don't close the ports first, seed easily spills out while filling.
There are no cons for this product. But I will say that it is definitely NOT squirrel-proof, so if you have a problem with the voracious squirrels (and most people do), this is not a good choice for you.

Garden Song® 100-12 First Flight Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my mom to watch the birds from her window. It was easy to attach to her window and easy to fill. When she checked to see why not a single bird was visiting --she noticed water (rain) entered into the feeding holes and froze the seed solid! She emptied it and tried again and it happened again. Maybe it would work in a covered area, but not in an area exposed to wet conditions.

Garden Song 101-4 Dine Around Window Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)This is one of 7 feeders that I have at my home NOTHING relaxes me and perks me up more than seeing all the colorful birds around my home. When I saw this one at it's incredible price, I had to give it a shot. It mounted to the window in about 30 seconds-I filled it with finch food, and had a purple finch perched and eating an hour later! What a thrill to be cleaning house, at the computer or relaxing in my recliner, and to be able to look out of our big, bay window and see the goldfinches and other birds perched. NEGATIVES: Perch is a LITTLE on the "flimsy" side, but no one's fallen off yet. Doesn't come with instructions - I could see this being a problem for someone unfamiliar with feeders. Other than that? Good job, once AGAIN, to Garden Song!

Heritage Farms Absolute II Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)We are looking for another feeder, so when I got to this page I thought I would tell you why this is the one we're going to purchase.
We got our first `7536' feeder over 10 years and we still like it. For one thing it holds an entire grocery store size bag of sunflower seeds and for another the birds love it. Frequently both sides are filled with our feathered friends while there are others waiting in the tree for their turn. [Thus our interest in another feeder.]
Presently we have Chickadees, Nuthatches, Cardinals, House sparrows, Wrens, Gold finches, the occasional flicker and small woodpecker visiting. When we lived it Texas it was convenient to exclude those pesky, though attractive, jays.
Initially I think (okay--my memories a little faded after a decade!) it did keep the squirrels at bay, but that hasn't been the case for many years. In fact, our local `free-range' squirrel has the glossiest coat you can imagine. But we don't really care as he is so jealous of the feeder that he keeps other intruders away.
The lapse in squirrel-proof-ness is probably due to years of collected grime and dust that clog the springs. That and just the passage of time.
Four Stars. Our feeder is doing just fine after 10 years. I think the other reviewer is wrong in saying that this feeder is available for less money. I think what he has seen is the one sided version of this same feeder. I say this because we have searched around a bit in order to save money.
And about the squirrels--we saw a PBS special one time that showed what a gray squirrel would actually do for lunch. They had these squirrels climbing, jumping, and riding in little wagons through a long tube to get to a bird feeder. I concluded after watching those experiments that `proofing' was a ridiculous notion. LOL.

Heritage Farms Vista Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder Review
