It also doesn't get dirty like most birdfeeders so it is easy to maintain. I am now going to buy one for my mother. I highly recommend this as a low-maintenace birdfeeder.

(More customer reviews)I bought this bird feeder after looking locally for a large feeder - prices were out of sight here. This is a strong & heavy feeder. It may not hang on your average hook or limb. It's made for almost any feed except thistle. Ours is loaded with half chicken scratch and half bird seed mix from our local feed store. It easily comes apart and goes back together for refill or cleaning.

While still being a nice large feeder I found out that rain will fill the bird seed tray and soak up into the entire container of feed where it sours or ferments. The base needs to be worked over. I have a good metal and woodworking shop. I imagine I'll remove what base I can and still retain the feeder holes and assembly full length screw and attach a flat wooden and/or screen wire platform. (More customer reviews)Although this feeder appears very sturdy it leaves much to be desired. The center wire that runs through the center of the feeding bin allows for the feeder to spin wildly in the wind. I had to drill a hole on each side of the roof and attach a 'Y' shaped wire that eliminates that spin. Further, the feeding tray where the birds eat the seed has no drainage holes and fills with water. Again, I had to drill four small drain holes to correct that problem. All in all, the feeder is not worth the money unless they correct these flaws. Other than that, it's perfect.

(More customer reviews)I have a pole with a hook to hold bird feeders and it is the type that sticks in the ground. Squirrels and chip monks constanly
get up and eat the seeds in the bird feeder. The baffle comes with a bracket, like a collar that is attched on the pole, and it is fixed in place by tightening the screw. The split in the baffle makes it convenient to put on. It then can be closed by hooking the ends together [they come with fold shape like a "U"]. Best to keep up the baffle as high off the ground as possible because the squirrels can jump up at leat 3 feet I think. I use this in combination with the supposedly squirrel proof feeders and works effectively, especially with the red squirrel. They are small and very smart. Also, make sure to keep the feeders away from other pole feeders and trees. Those squirrels are very determined and can jump fairly far. For the money, this is one of the most effective anti-squirrel guard. Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)This is a sturdy and quality feeder but we have a problem with small birds getting their little heads trapped in the feeder holes on bottom tray! We have had to rescue two birds and cut the metal as they became trapped after going in too far for food. I am sure the company will not change the design based upon that, but it just a potential problem. We have not had any other quality issues.
