12 INCH ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI BIRD FEEDER Review

12 INCH ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI BIRD FEEDER

I've seen a number of St Francis of Assisi statues/depictions. Some, of course, are life-size (or larger) statues that can only be purchased by organizations, museums, and the wealthy. Others are much smaller ("suitable" for personal gardens, etc.) but still too expensive for many people.
I've also seen reasonably-priced statues that were poorly done, odd looking, or cheap looking. One even had splotches (no other word for it) all over it (not just on his clothes, to perhaps be meant as patches in his robe), including on the animals!
This "bird feeder" is actually a statue that can either stand on its base or hang from its metal-reinforced notch. The fingers, toes, and facial features are well done (even finger nails) with each finger clear and refined in workmanship. The animals are well done also (fawn, birds) and in reasonable "locations"; the chain and Cross he wears are very well done. I actually have mine displayed in my living room--it is that nice.
This statue is suitable for display as artwork, for used as a key caddy (or ring caddy in the kitchen), or for its intended use as a bird feeder. It is wonderful for Catholics and Protestants and Independents--anyone who respects his work, loves nature in general and/or wildlife in particular.
I most highly recommend it as the best statue of St Francis that I've found for sale in the retail market.

Strathwood Granite-Finish Bird Feeder Review

It is very pretty and my daughter loves holding the little birdie. It is also nice because it looks heavy, but is actually light. It is made of metal with some kind of faux stone finish that looks good in the garden. BUT if you have hard water like I do, don't use it for a bird bath. It's positively amazing how fast the calcium builds up in a black bird bath. It's much nicer for birdseed. The little birds love hopping up to it and feeding from the edges.

Enjoy looking at and nourishing a wide variety of birds in your own backyard with Strathwood's bird feeder. In addition to hosting beautiful birds, one wants a feeder that is beautiful and complementary to outdoor decor as well. Made by skilled artisans, this bowl design is constructed of dark, charcoal-gray metal in a matte finish and features a concentric circle pattern inside. On the rim perches a tiny bird sculpture. Despite the heavy look of granite, the feeder is of lighter weight and so easily transports to any spot desired. Measuring 12 by 5 inches, the feeder weighs approximately 4-1/2 pounds and fits in most any outdoor space. It arrives completely assembled and ready to use.
Strathwood décor has quality, ease of use, and casual elegance at its core. This classic style and reliable craftsmanship will weather ever-changing trends and regular use for years to come.

Perky Pet 5110PP Fortress® Breakaway Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder Review

This is a poorly designed, low quality feeder. The spring mechanisms on the perches appear to be too tight. In the "collapsed" position a small open gap remains at the top of the feed portals and the perches still sit at an angle. Consequently, the squirrels can easily gain access to the seed by using the perches on both sides to distribute their weight and then insert their paws through the small openings. The squirrels in my yard only needed minutes to figure out this design flaw. However, true to their tenacious nature, they were not satisfied with getting one or two seeds at a time. Their next objective was to rid themselves of the obstacle between them and the "Mother Load". Thanks to the poor quality of this feeder, that wasn't hard for them to achieve. Two days after I put up this feeder, the squirrels ripped the sliding cover off of one side of the feeder and emptied its contents. I managed to snap the piece back into place only to have them do it again the next day, and the feeder was once again empty within hours.
In retrospect, I should have recognized this as a bad design before I even made the purchase. The design of the Perky Pet feeder isn't even appropriate for birds as the perches force the birds to face each other at the feeding stations, which encourage fights. On the rare occasions I didn't have a squirrel hanging from this feeder, I never saw more than one bird using it. In contrast, my Brome Squirrel Buster Classic feeder (filled with the same seed) attracts several birds at a time. I wanted a similar feeder with a larger seed capacity and I thought I was getting a good deal with this feeder. I was wrong. Don't waste your money.
