(More customer reviews)I bought the Schrodt Designs BFH-H Hanging Butterfly House for a Christmas gift for my wife. The item is well designed and crafted using high quality wood, brass and etched glass. It's GORGEOUS. One item to warn other buyers about - when removing from factory box, remove all newspaper wrapping FIRST. Do NOT try to pull the wooden top separately from the rest of the unit to remove it from box, it is attached by a heavy cord that passes through to the bottom of the main unit. Pulling on the top of the house will damage some of the leaves from the manzinilla branch inside. My Butterfly House was packaged well from the factory. It arrived in perfect condition. Even the enlarged picture of this item does not do it justice. I highly recommend this item as a gift for a gardener or nature lover to enjoy or to add to the beauty of your own yard and garden!

(More customer reviews)After searching through all the butterfly houses on Amazon, I decided to buy this one as a birthday present to myself. It's not the least expensive of the houses sold here, but I believe it's the best value. For under fifty bucks, you get a pretty LARGE butterfly house handcrafted of solid cedar. It is well made, with deck screws. It has a side that opens very easily for cleaning and observing your butterfly activities. The side door is secured with a sturdy brass L hook. The house's slot openings are plentiful (six in front, two on each side), providing excellent ventilation and butterfly access. And best of all, it is made in the good ol' US of A (Wisconsin)... something very hard to find these days, but appreciated immensely by me!
I could have spent 1/5 of the price... but I decided that this would be a good investment. And I was not wrong about that. This is a serious piece of outdoor "furniture" that I believe will last for many years. It is the same material (red cedar, smells great too) as the fence I had installed many years ago, and that is still in fine shape and has a lot of life in it... in spite of turning a silvery gray over time. I suspect that with proper care, this item will age the same way.
Kudos to BirdsChoice, for selling such a fine quality item in a world that seems to be filled with crap. I intend to look into purchasing their Flutterby butterfly feeder as well, now that I know how quality-oriented the company is.
