I bought this to hang on a high shepherd's crook over my wingspan copper birdbath. My hope was to have some dripping action from the hanging bath into the lower pan. I have no electricity in this area of the garden and don't like the gadget-y battery or solar water movers; I don't want to set up a faucet-driven dripper either - it seems wasteful and too far from the house to attempt it, or something could go wrong and saturate the area...
This product is very sturdy and great quality. There are no "shortcuts," not even in the hanging hardware. However, you can tell this is "hand made" in that it isn't perfectly symmetrical. Fine with me, but I thought I should mention it.
This has a long, attached copper hook.
Birds seem to prefer the drinker for imbibing because the water stays clean. Goldfinches in particular use the drinker; they usually passed by the bird baths, which are quickly dirtied by flocks of bathers. (No bird could bathe in this due to its construction, it's good for drinking only).
The item is beautiful to look at and its subtle movement with the occasional sound of water drizzling into the copper pan is a lovely touch.
The great thing with copper is that it can be left out year 'round. As soon as the sun hits it, even in the coldest winter weather, any ice or snow melts down enough to provide a drink for wintering birds.
