(More customer reviews)Like two other people here, the feeder arrived with the center pole broken off. Ironically, this is our *second* feeder: our first (purchased at a competitor for half what Amazon charges) was destroyed by heavy birds landing to feed. The puny glue joint snapped, the feeder fell to asphalt and shattered. What is really sad is that if the designers had taken a few moments to consider the stress points of the feeder, the problem never would have existed.
We were upset, as we really liked the feeder. I went online and found it "cheapest" at Amazon. It arrived yesterday - post broken - and I filed for a replacement (wish I had read these reviews first!!).
When the next one arrives, I don't think I'll wait for the post to break; I'll remove it myself. I will drill a hole through the base cut threads on the post and use a sturdy nut and washer (with thread-lock)combination. We actually have a squirrel-proof place to hang it, so with a bit of luck we may get a couple of seasons out of it.
If you can find one of these cheap - and have the skills to modify it - pick one up. I can't see how they will be on the market long with such a poor design.
